Feature Highlight: Vertex shifting for SoHeightFieldRender
02 Feb 2021Height field rendering is a powerful feature implemented for efficiently rendering large “horizon” surfaces in E&P seismic interpretation applications. The height field representation is memory efficient and stored as a multi-resolution hierarchy (like volume data) to maintain interactive rendering even with many horizons. By definition, height values are stored on an implicit regular grid. Open Inventor Toolkit 10.8 introduces a shader function that allows the application to shift the grid vertices on the GPU with no performance penalty.
